Be an Ambassador for Love
Share this blog with other women; help create a community of women who believe we can reverse the trend towards cultural standards of feminine beauty.
Be a peaceful advocate. Print encouraging & inspirational posters and stick ‘em up in school or at home or in your locker. Errr…just no vandalism or imposition of your values on others, it’s not cool. Period.
We’ve also got some pretty cute namecards you can send to the printers and hand out to your gal pals. Spread the wordto encourage more young women to step up to embrace their own and others’ uniqueness; to find their voice and speak out against what they feel unfair and what they believe in. It’s not impossible to love your self, even if you don’t fit society’s mold of the ‘perfect female figure’!
- Push for a Love Your Body Day, Singapore Edition.
Love Your Body Day is a project of the USA’s National Organisation for Women Foundation, is scheduled sometime mid-October every year although every day of the year is the right day for women to embrace their natural figures. According to the site, “Love Your Body Day is a day of actions, challenging the media to rid negative images of women, raising awareness of women’s health issues, and celebrating the beauty and diversity of all women’s bodies. “
I think this is a pretty amazing initiative, a big push to raise awareness towards the media’s creation of cultural standards of a woman’s beauty. I want to start our very own Love Your Body day – have a panel of people from the beauty industry/slimming companies, feminist groups, psychologists, doctors, plastic surgeons; sell tee shirts with positive, inspiring messages with proceeds going towards programmes like school talks, camps, support groups, newsletters to further spread the message on other days of the year. If we can have Secretary Day, Boss’s Day, Breast Cancer Month, rans to raise awareness & funds for certain causes, why not?

Be Proactive!
Design sweet T-shirts with messages on them advocate self-love to remind yourself to be gentle to yourself & to inspire all the people you meet. One message I love from the NOW website is “This is what Barbie OUGHT to Look Like”. Cute.

Hold an unconventional fashion show
Get local shops and designers, or friends from NAFA/Laselle involved! Traditional outfits, workwear, or movie/shopping comfort clothes, embrace the lovely shapes and shades women come in. Include healthy body information in the program book, have an emcee or the clothes designer to inject good health tips and positive body image messages between models.

Organise a funky festival to raise awareness
Invite local bands, local bakeries/caterers with a strong community/environmental focus, and even local celebrities like Eunice Olsen, who are strong advocates of self-love & acceptance to raise awareness towards acceptance and love of all body types and colours! Ask local businesses to sponsor the event for printouts, posters, publicity. Organise games, dance, do yoga or pilates, and celebrate!
