Aloha!
This site is created as a follow up to the Perfect The Way I am Workshop (to be held on the 17th of Nov 2007 at the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations). During the workshop, young women from different schools, polytechnics, and universities came together to participate in an interactive workshop which aimed to raise awareness towards eating disorders and the importance of cultivating self-love from within. The workshop featured distinguished speakers from Hope Centre and SGH, as well as several past patients of eating disorders.

Perfect, the way I Am aims to raise awareness towards eating disorders in Singapore (& worldwide) thru’ sharing of stories and other information pertaining to the disorder. It is important to reduce the stigma attached to having an eating disorder so those suffering will reach out – so if you’ve got a story to share (about yourself or a friend), please do!It’s an advocacy site that aims to encourage all women to truly love themselves, just as we are – regardless of how much we deviate from the cultural standards of beauty. The ability to accept and be happy with who you are, despite how everything else changes – your looks, your husband, your income, your environment – is more than possible. It’s there. It’s waiting.

Perfect, the way I am provide a safe forum for women to bear it all – from their deepest and most painful secrets, to their dreams and hopes for themselves and the future. So write to me, perfectthewayiam@gmail.com & share your thoughts!

Why Self Love & Eating Disorders?

The incidence of eating disorders are growing in Singapore, with the growing pressure on young women to look a certain way and to juggle more on their shoulders as they adopt more roles in society – mother, daughter, career woman, household carer, you name it.  Women care so much for others (& sometimes what others think about their actions and looks) that it is often their emotional wellbeing that they neglect! It is important to empower women through finding out who they are, what they like, through nourishing their inner selves, through cultivating self love.

Be an Ambassador of Love

Print out the posters/namecards to recruit and encourage more young women to step up to embrace their own and others’ uniqueness. Share this blog with other women; let’s form a community of women who believe that we can reverse the trend towards cultural standards of feminine beauty.

The purpose of the blog….

To provide a safe space for women to:

  • Air opinions (Respectfully, please!)
  • Share stories with other women (not b*tchslap others, mind you!)
  • Inspire others with their personal journies
  • Share tips and quotes that may encourage others to maintain a sense of self while the rest of the world marches to a different tune of beautifying the outside and neglecting the beautiful woman on the inside…
  • Haiyoh! Anything empowering, you can share it here!
